Description

Karel Oberthor: Prominent Czech painter and graphic artist. Karel Oberthor (1921–1996) was a recognized Czech painter, graphic artist and illustrator, whose work is characterized by a deep connection with nature and a strong emotional charge. He was born and died in Prague, where he spent most of his life and artistic career.

Oberthor trained as a lithographer and subsequently studied at the Ukrainian Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he had the opportunity to work under the guidance of important educators, such as Vladimír Pukl and Vladimír Silovský. In 1950 became a member of the Hollar association, which brings together Czech graphic artists and where he regularly exhibited not only in the Czech Republic, but also abroad.

His works reflect changes in artistic style, whereby he gradually moved from realistic themes to symbolic expression. His favorite subjects included natural scenery and horses, which he often depicted in different moods and lights. In addition to painting, Oberthor also devoted himself to illustration, whose works have been published in literary books.

Oberthor's daughter, Zuzana Popelková, she is also an artist, which testifies to the family tradition of artistic expression. Today, his work is valued not only for its aesthetic value, but also for the historical context, in which it originated.

Natural elements: The scenery is surrounded by trees, whose bare branches add a peaceful atmosphere, but also a melancholic touch. Overall, the graphic evokes the harmony between agriculture and nature.
Color palette: A combination of muted blue and green tones is used, which contribute to the nostalgic impression. The colors are gently blended and create an impression of space and depth.
